Frequently Asked Questions

Can I edit the survey's page and question numbering? Page Breaks

When the survey is published it is broken down into pages, page breaks can be identified by a Page break symbol in the Composer's preview display. The default is to have 7 questions per page but this can be adjusted using the Edit Details/Page Size value.

Please note that each survey page acts as a checkpoint and if you specify a large Page Size you will reduce the number of pages/checkpoints that may in turn reduce the amount of response data you receive from partially completed surveys.

If you have specific concerns regarding page breaks please use the Help Request facility where we will be happy to help. Question Numbering

While Composing ensure that the Refs box is ticked at the top of the tool box menu. While adding or editing items providing the Refs box is ticked a Reference Number box will be included at the top of the screen when an item is being created or modified.

You can assign your own number and enter them in the Reference Number box.

Note that if you assign your own numbering and then alter the order of the questions you will need to manually renumber the items.

Can I enter manual or hard copy surveys? Yes, if you have ticked the 'Input Operator' field on you Personal Profile.

Setting this option will reveal a 'Capture Response' option on the left navigation menu when you have selected your survey.

All captured responses are by their nature anonymous as they are not attached to a users registration, however, as a link is maintained between the response and your account all captured responses may be viewed, edited or deleted.

How do I add HTML to a survey, ie: italics, bold and underline? Some websites prohibit the use of html since it may cause problems with the operation of the site itself. Many sites control this by identifying user html code and then stripping it out.

Survey Galaxy allows HTML code to be included within the survey although we would only recommend this is attempted if you are proficient in its use.

Survey Galaxy does not provide specific support in the use of HTML, therefore we can only tell you that it is possible to modify the styles, define tables, lists and links, but we cannot tell you how.

For general use we recommend that the system and customised Styles are used.

How do I change the fonts, colours, and style? Survey Galaxy have a number of system styles to choose from and also allows you to create you own customised styles.

To prevent the system from becoming over complicated Survey Galaxy works on the principle of style guides.

Style guides will allow you to modify globally different elements within the survey i.e. all the Headers, all the Questions or all the comments.

To modify an element double click on the section you wish to change in the Compose options dynamic preview screen.

A Customised style box will be displayed allowing you to change font size, colour and weight as well as the background colour.

The library is split into System, Personal and Account libraries.

Edit the survey so that it contains only the items that you want to use in other surveys and then save the modified survey.

Please note that when using the library feature not all items from a library module have to be imported so you can include optional items. (i.e. you could have a number of different age groups to suit a number of different surveys).

Once imported the items can be tailored in the same way as any other item.
